Great video, helped a lot with the build! Was the black undercoat to darken the paint finish before the green went on? I have put a coat of green on my one and it is far too light, no2 gloss emerald like instructions say. However did this over white primer. Really useful vid and looks stunning!
The tool maker earned his keep making the tooling for that kit .😊
Just finishing mine. It's the original version of the kit I bought in 2011. It's been languishing in the stash ever since. I was put off back then by some adverse comments on the kit. However, having a 'thing' for clipped winged Spitfires, I finally decided to give it a go. It's an absolute joy to build, accepting it is what it is. It also looks pretty good when when finished!
Having great difficulty attaching top of wings over spar and engine cowling...sanding sanding sanding...
Fantastic result!
Humbrol 78 is the wrong green... it's too dark (Humbrol has got this one totally wrong), Vallejo DE green or grey green is more accurate or MIG ammo interior green. Apart from that, you have done a great job. I'm planning to make that kit, "I've made two Tamiya Mk.1s. I find it's best to check as many photos of the real thing before I start a build to avoid wrong colour matching.
Looking good! Is the red line on the fuselage a decal or did you paint it?
Hi Stevie - great video, im about to jump into this kit for an Airfix Happy Build for a change, thanks for sharing cheers Liam
Hi, love the video, I'm a 'born again ' modeller last time I built a plastic kit (Airfix B29) was 50 years ago! when I was 15. Now at the age of 65 and retired I have re discovered modelling and my oh my, how things have changed, particularly painting and finishing! Acrylics? I used to use a Humbrol or airfix/revell cant remember, Small tins of enamels, Hand painted and would take a decade to dry! But Acrylics? and Airbrushed? All new to me but I'm getting there! The question I would be grateful for an answer to is what Gloss varnish do you spray on the model prior to Decals and weathering? I used Vallejo Acrylic paints and I then Used Vallejo polyurethane acrylic Gloss vanish. Left it to dry for 48 hours and then used microset/microsol to aid with bedding in the decals …but...dear oh dear it literally melted the varnish the decals were on. areas around the decals look like peeling skin from sunburn and to be truthful has ruined what was a nice 1/48 spitfire mk1/ What did I do wrong? People have said I used the wrong gloss but opinions are divided on which Gloss to use? I wonder could you, or anyone reading this please offer some advice on what you use for the gloss varnish? I have the Vallejo Matt varnish I was going to spray model with AFTER the decals/weathering but I've put that too on the back burner till I figure out where I went wrong? Tamiya paints...NOT Vallejo, some people say! Any advice would be gratefully received. Again, loved the build!
Just use blue tac to keep idler/drive wheels until u start painting, etc
Amazing.
HI , FROM ANDY WHERE I CAN A MODELL AROUND PRETORIA
Great stuff, just about to start this one myself!
Is that a reboxed or a newly tooled Airfix kit?
how did you do the stripes on the bonnet with the thin white lines?
great build, music WAY Way too loud.
I have build the Dapol version from this kit !
I do like these, having crewed Chieftain Challenger1,scorpion and Swingfire! Brilliant job!
Nice build Stevie. It's always a good idea to wash the model though. Love those old kits, takes me back to when I was a young lad
Yeah this is not a good kit. The fit of the engine is dreadful. But in the end it looks absolutely beautiful.
very nice !!!!!!!
I have this one in my stash, however it’s one of the early kits that Revell released. The box art is different from yours. It shows the Kepford F4-U1A flying in the same pose over a Marine landing. The aircraft is in the 1945 dark sea blue over all camouflage , which empties this was set in the Okinawa invasion. It’s on the shelf and I do agree with you on the lack of detail when you compare it to the other kits that of Corsair. The oldest kit I have is the 1/48 scale of the 1964 Monogram kit and has more detail than this bird. Even the much larger Gullows wood and tissue kit has as much detail. But thanks for your video,
According to Scalemates, this is NOT and Academy kit. This is a Revell tooling from 1995. Academy did a rebox a few years ago. I am currently also building this and I agree the front -back joint is a pain. I did not have issues with the cockpit and front fuselage closing up though. Good job on the German camouflage!
Moso
Did you used the kid withe the 4 collers glue etc So ist this how it looks when you unly use the 4 colors because i want to buy the kid but i am npt schur if i need anny extra color
Looks great , a small helicopter in 1/72
Thanks very much for watching and commenting its very much appreciated mate 😁
Nice job Steve 👍
Thanks 👍Mike Itsmuch appreciated Boyo
Nice to see you back Stevie, I had this kit but it got lost during a house move two years ago, so nice to see you build it.
Sorry to hear that Steven. Im glad you liked my build of it mate
Awesome little kit...have 2 of them.. 1 using kit decals and the other in Irish Air Corps markings....shame she is a tail sitter
Thanks for watching and commenting. Your right about it being a tail sitter. I didn't show it but I did put a lead blanket in the back seats :)
@@Ryker45 ah that explains it...was about to ask how you got around that issue
Brilliant video. Really good job on an old kit , really enjoy your vids, thanks.
Thanks very much peter for watching and commenting buddy
Enjoyed the video, thank you. Would like to see it back in catalogue. I think you ment the Westland scout as airfix haven't done a wasp.

Thanks for watching Peter, My memory slips me nowadays but I do remember it, It must have been the scout
So very proud of you sweetheart, well done on reaching this milestone ❤ xxx
Thanks Caz for watching and commenting, Your too kind
This kit is my next build and I've been debating which PE kits to purchase. This video has been a great build guide and has helped me make my aftermarket purchase decisions. Thank you.
Glad I could help Grant, I hope you enjoy building it as much as I did
Less than 200 of this type were actually made--originally. Quite a few showed in the Iran/ Iraq war in the 80's in Iranian service. They had quite a few older M4A3 in reserve/storage as well as M-36 .The M-36 had thin arnour and the hull in bad shape from being used as driver training . As the war with Iraq continued ,the Iranian army needed replacement tanks with firepower. They ended up removing the turrets from theM4A3 and replacing them with the turret and gun from the M-36. More firepower and better armoured . A few were taken by Iraqi army and pressed into service. Never heard if they were encountered in 91 or later by various coalition forces ,but it is possible .
Thanks for the very interesting information Chris :)
Great build = Subscribed xx 😊👍
Thank you! 🤗 It's very much appreciated
A nice little diorama Steve, I too am an aircraft man originally but tend to like building all models now,
Many thanks for your kind comments 😊
Hiya Steve , Thanks for sharing this build ,, I’m on the lookout for any painting/spraying and weathering techniques , I’ve a dogfight double of the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Vb and the Messerschmitt BF109E to build ,, it’s been a 40+year absence in modelling so I’m now in the opportunity to start all again ,, especially with all the detailing and weathering techniques available now ,, I’d only ever build and paint when I was a nipper ,,, Thanks again for the video and hope to see more 😃
Thanks very much for watching and commenting. Im glad you liked it and look forward to seeing any builds you post mate
Looks a top build Steve!! 😃
Thanks very much, Im glad you liked it :)
Thanks for the video. Nice build. I have the John Clenn version ready to start but same kit. Can I ask what you used for the aluminium coats please? I have the same gloss primer and liked the finish you got. Thanks.
Thanks for commenting it's very appreciated 👍. I sprayed Vallejo metal colour aluminium. Straight from the bottle. It's excellent stuff mate

Thanks very much Rik, it's very much appreciated mate 😊
Great work.
Thanks very much your comment is very much appreciated 👍
I built this kit about 3 weeks ago...I agree it is a horrible kit...the wings were a pain to sort out..but well done on your finished result.
Thanks very much for watching and commenting, it's very much appreciated mate. Also thanks for backing me up 😉
That's a nice build Stevie, It's a shame all that interior detail isn't on show but as you say there are no crew figures. I have just discovered your channel and I'm enjoying what I see.
Thanks very much for your comment Steven. I'm glad you like my channel bud 😊
Hiya Stevie, that's a lovely build of a kit that I actually have, as a mojo build but so far have not built. I love your old school method of dappling the paintwork, which is very much airfix magazine techniques of yesteryear, but one which was used extensively before air brushing was the norm. I am in the loft tomorrow looking for that kit lol, cheers mate.
Thanks very much for your comment Steven, it's very much appreciated mate. I'm glad you liked the model and hope you enjoy it as much as I did 👍
